The biggest news item from the company’s latest quarter was its news that it had been acquired by the Boston Globe, and that the paper is now reporting that the company is paying $9.7 billion for Rockville.
The news was greeted with mixed reactions in the financial world, but it did not sit well with some, especially in the tech industry, where Rockville is known for its high-quality desktops and laptops.
But there was another reason for the company to do business with the Globe: The paper is buying the Rockville office of a rival newspaper, The Journal-News.
The purchase price was announced last week, and The Journal News said it had asked Rockville for $12.4 billion for a paper it has been publishing for more than 50 years.
“The news is good for the Journal-World, which was a newspaper of record before it went public in 1998, as we now have the opportunity to bring in the Rockvilles technology, which is an integrated technology that provides a level of quality that is unprecedented in the industry,” said Tom Kaczmarek, the publisher of The Journal, in a statement.
“Rockville, as an integrated company with a rich history, will continue to be a strong leader in the digital news industry and a key component of our company’s portfolio.”
Rockville is a company that has built its reputation on its high quality office computers, and its most recent products were the Rocklighters, the first to feature Intel processors.
But for years, Rockville had struggled to find a way to make office PCs that were priced competitive with those from its competitors.
Rockville’s technology is now being integrated into new products from Intel, which makes some of the most expensive desktops, including the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, as well as the Dell Inspiron G620, which costs more than $3,000.
The Rocklighter was the first desktop computer to offer Intel processors, and Rocklender is one of the companies that makes the ThinkPads that Intel is making the first computers for Apple.
In the fourth quarter, Rocklier posted an operating profit of $2.8 billion, up from $1.7 million a year earlier.
It said that revenue from its computer division was $1 billion, a 7.5 percent increase from a year ago.
However, it still has a long way to go to match Intel’s desktop division, which accounts for almost a third of Rockville’s total revenue.
Last year, Rockler reported operating income of $6.9 billion, but that figure fell to $4.2 billion in 2016.
For its part, Rocklon reported operating profit last year of $1 million, down from $3.3 billion a year before.
According to a report by the Wall Street Review of Companies, Rockwell is “a leader in desktops that can support multiple monitors, high-resolution displays, and integrated graphics, with many of the companys desktop PCs delivering high performance.”
Rockwell also makes the Rockler Pro, a higher-end desktop that costs $1,000 more than the Rocklamender Pro.
